One of my favourite things about doing Bottom Of The Barrel is when bartenders pick an ingredient that I secretly love. On the outside I’m like “Gross! Disgusting! Honestly, who drinks (insert maligned alcoholic ingredient here).” On the inside I’m like “F$%& yes!! I can’t want to try this.”
Take, for example, our last Bottom Of The Barrel challenger Sabrine Dhaliwal. When she called out her former colleague Kevin Brownlee (bar manager of AnnaLena) and saddled him with Pumpkin Spice Kahlua, I was rather excited. Because who are we kidding? I end most of my days with a shot of the original over an ounce of espresso. I have to say though, this post-work ritual may have just gotten an upgrade as Brownlee knocked this one out of the park.
The Bartender: Kevin Brownlee
The Ingredient: Pumpkin Spice Kahlua
The Cocktail: Pump Up The Jam
1 oz Kahlua Pumpking Spice liqueur
0.5 oz Gosling Dark Rum
0.5 heavy cream
0.5 cinnamon syrup
1 barspoon or Orange Spiced Jam
3 oz cold brew coffee dash
1 Apothecary Darkness bitters
Shake all ingredients over ice and strain into a glass. Garnish with grated cinnamon.
