Bottom Of The Barrel take 10- a delightful series in which local bartenders are asked to use unusual ingredients to create a new cocktail. A few weeks ago Miss Katie Ingram of UVA Wine and Cocktail Bar was saddled with Malibu Island Spice (and she did a mighty fine job).
Katie threw the challenge to the formidable Sabrine Dhaliwal of West Restaurant and stuck her with Advocaat Liqueur. For those of you that are unfamiliar with the ingredient (because I certainly had to look it up) Advocaat is a Dutch liqueur made from eggs, sugar and brandy. And while this whole darn thing was supposed to be a challenge, Sabrine was all too familiar with the ingredient noting that her grandmother was a big fan!
The Bartender: Sabrine Dhaliwal
The Ingredient: Advocaat
The Cocktail: Lekker Taart (translation: Tasty Tart in Dutch).
The Recipe:
1 oz Advocaat
1 oz Boomsa Genever
1 oz Lemon Hart Rum
0.5 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
Combine all ingredients in a tin shaker. Shake over ice. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with grated dark chocolate.
This delightful little concoction has the consistency of a flip. The lemon cuts the sweetness of the Advocaat and the Lemon Hart adds a lovely spice to the rich cocktail.
